Position Title: Outreach Coordinator

Location: Vancouver, British Columbia

Duration: 35 hours per week for 8 Weeks, beginning on or before June 26, 2019

Renumeration: $16.00 per hour

 

Organizational Background:

Founded in 1972, the Multifaith Action Society (MAS) is a Canadian registered charity dedicated to the facilitation of interfaith education and dialogue. For over forty years, MAS has worked to build bridges between the myriad cultural and spiritual communities that characterize British Columbia, and has collaborated on a wide variety of public education campaigns and initiatives that have affected positive social change while raising awareness of multicultural issues.

 

Position Summary:

We are seeking a talented, organized, and self-starting Outreach Coordinator to work with us over the Summer to help raise awareness of the organization and its various events, programs, and educational resources; develop collaborative relationships with a wide range of community organizations and institutions; and increase both charitable donations and sales of the Multifaith Calendar.

 

In essence, the Outreach Coordinator will focus on increasing, broadening and deepening public engagement with the Multifaith Action Society across all available points of access.

 

As this position is subsidized by the Federal Canada Summer Jobs program, applicants must be:

(a) between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;

(b) Canadian Citizens, permanent residents, or a person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*; and

(c) legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.

 

*International students are not eligible.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Researching and conducting outreach to organizations, institutions and individuals, both locally and internationally, to inform them of MAS’ various offerings and identify opportunities for potential collaboration;
  • Developing and implementing promotional strategies around the Multifaith Action Society’s various programs, events, and resources;
  • Maintaining and updating the organizational website and social media channels;
  • Composing and distributing blog posts, articles, press releases and social media posts relevant to the organization’s activities and fields of interest;
  • Assisting in the planning, promotion, and implementation of community events and programs;
  • Creating a database of community and press contacts and keeping detailed records of
  • their interactions and conversations;
  • Potentially representing the organization and its offerings at other community events; and
  • Assisting in the day-to-day operations of the organization, as needed

 

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of (or a demonstrated interest in) contemporary interfaith affairs, environmental and social justice issues, and the non-profit sector
  • Ability to think globally and to work with people of different backgrounds
  • A background (or a demonstrated interest in) creative writing and the effective use of social media
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Aptitude with common office-based computer applications (MS Word, MS Excel, etc.) and web-based publishing platforms (content management systems, email marketing services)
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Rigorous attention to detail and a demonstrated flexibility in adapting to a wide variety of tasks and functions
  • Proven ability independently and effectively determine priorities and to act accordingly with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of (or a willingness to learn) graphic design principles and computer applications would be considered an asset

The successful candidate will be expected to split his or her time between their own personal workspace and MAS’ physical office, located in the Unitarian Church of Vancouver, 949 West 49 Avenue, Vancouver (this location is serviced frequently by the #17 and #49 buses, and is within walking distance of the Canada Line stop at Langara-49th). MAS is not in a position to be able to provide dedicated computer equipment at this time, so the successful applicant will be expected to be comfortable working on his or her own laptop or tablet.
